The music was composed by O.P Nayyar with lyrics penned by Rajendra Krishan. This film was the debut of Shammi Kapoor, who played the role of a villain. He later played similar roles in "Teri Meri Ek Jindari" (1958) and "Dil Deke Dekho" (1959). The film became a box-office hit, becoming one of the highest grossers of 1954. This film was heralded as a trendsetter for its use of the location shooting technique for an Indian movie, which had so far rarely been used. It also introduced Dev Anand as an action hero. The film begins with Karan (Dev Anand) coming out of jail and asking for a job. To his surprise he is given the job of fixing the ceiling fan in a house. When he gets there, he meets his friend Jeevan (Jagdeep) who is very dismissive about the job and makes fun of him. He attracts attention from Nandini (Geeta Roy), who has come to meet her father (Pran), and invites him over for dinner. On arrival, Karan meets Nandini's elder sister Lalitha (Jumbo Chawla) and very soon falls in love with her then she does too. Karan decides to leave the house without saying anything, but Lalitha follows him. Karan tells her to go back but she does not. When he tries to drive off, Lalitha jumps in front of the car and is admitted to hospital with a broken arm. Karan rents a small house for her in Kalpi road, where she is visited by her father. Nandini also goes there when she misses Karan. To keep Nandini away from Lalitha, Pran takes them all out on a picnic. On the way they meet an accident when an elephant runs amok and Lalitha is admitted to hospital again with multiple injuries, this time in both legs being paralysed. To save her life, Karan takes her to a doctor (Johnny Walker) the only person who the father thinks would be able to save Lalitha. While getting operated on, she tells Karan that he is not responsible for any of this and is forgiven. After the operation is done and she has recovered, they go back to the house and tell Nandini and Pran about what happened. Both of them agree that they're best off apart as their love was unreciprocated. cfa1e77820
